CTD PROFILES

*PARAMETERS: Pressure, Temperature, Salinity, Dissolved Oxygen, Light Transmission and Chlorophyll-a.

*INSTRUMENTS: SBE 911 plus CTD System, with a 10cm and 25cm light-path transmissometer (that measure the parameters with codes TUR3 and TUR0 correspondingly), dissolved oxygen sensor, fluorometer, equiped with an alarm altimeter and a pumb, connected to the deck via a contuctive wire.

*SUMMARY: To study the deep water formation in Aegean Sea, to identify the hydrological conditions that are associated with the formation of the Cretan Deep Water and its early spreading, to study the spreading of Deep Cretan Water in Eastern Mediterranean, to investigate the status of Eastern Mediterranean transient during 1998-1999, to investigate the flow regime at the Cretan Straits.
Data were acquired at 33.333 Hz during downcasts. Spikes were removed and data were interpolated at every meter. Salinity and dissolved oxygen were corrected following bottles sample calibration. Oxygen measured in ml/l (DOX1) and converted in mmol/m3 (DOXY) using the formula: DOXY = DOX1 * 44.66
