HNODC Tasks

Responsibility

NCMR-HNODC will co-ordinate Task II.ER, convene the Eastern Region (East Ionian, Aegean Sea, Levantine Basin) technical meetings, write the meeting reports and write two annual reports for the Eastern region archiving, a final report and short six-monthly administrative reports.

NCMR-HNODC will compile, safeguard and make available all the new releasable Greek data not included in the previous MEDATLAS product (Task I.7).

It will adapt its transcoding software (work II.ER.2.1) and transcode the Greek data at the MEDATLAS format (work II.ER.3.1) and the data collected in this region by countries not represented in the consortium (work II.ER.3.7). It will adapt the QC software for the Eastern Basin for control of bio-chemical parameters (Task II.ER.1). It will QC the Greek data (work.II.ER.4.1), the data collected in the Eastern region by countries not represented in the consortium (work II.ER.4.7) and will offer job training for visiting participants of Cyprus, Egypt, Israel, Lebanon and Turkey to QC their data sets collected in the Eastern region.

It will operate the regional assembling and final checks of the Eastern region and send a copy of the data set to the global assembling centre (Task II.ER.5).

Participation

NCMR-HNODC will participate in the development of the Mediterranean hydro-chemical cruises inventory (Task I.18) for the Greek cruises. It will contribute to the data management networking (Task I.19) by developing regional WWW pages with hyperlinks to the other project servers.

It will participate to the specifications for the pre-processing software and data product (Task III.1), to the global assembling (Task III.2) by completing information and operating format corrections if necessary.

It will participate in the QC of the beta-test data product and request corrections/improvement for the final product (Task III.5).

It will contribute to the specifications for the objective analysis (Task IV.1), the QC of the analysed data of temperature and salinity (Task IV.6) and of bio-chemical parameters (Task IV.7).

It will contribute to the writing of QC specifications for inventories (Task V.1), for observed data (Task V.2), for climatologies (Task V.4) and for data products (Task V.5). It will participate in inter-comparison tests (Task V.3) and review the final QC manual (Task V.6).

It will actively contribute to the promotion and exploitation of the data product (Task III.6) by free distribution to the Greek scientific laboratories who contributed to the data collection, by reviewing and disseminating the project brochures, by preparing papers and posters for scientific and technical meetings.
